no victory is too small

February 12, 2018

WINTER IS HARD.  It's dark, freezing, and everyone is more pushy on the subway.  As an empath, winter has the ability to take me down.  However, this year I refuse to let this season be unnecessarily hard.

See, I think we are all too quick to assume the worst about this season. We make it so much harder than it has to be.  As an actor, winter means audition season. Depending on your mindset, audition season can be one of the most exciting, exhilarating, or exhausting times of the year.  We can treat it like a GRIND...a struggle, a fight that we are always losing.

We can slo view this time as a chance to create, explore, play, and grow.  It wasn't until this year that I truly understood that we all have multiple lenses through which we can view any situation or circumstance.  Just because a time of the year is dark, long, or exhausting, doesn't mean we cannot find the joy in it.   We create our reality.  We always have an option on how we want to see or experience the world, and we can always try looking through another lens.

Because I experience life is such heightened ways, a friend challenged me recently to celebrate the little victories.  It's not about booking the dream's about the joy of performing in an audition room, it's about taking a class that flips your perspective, it's about hugging a friend in the crowded audition holding room.  Maybe you take a class that intimidated you...maybe you ask a friend to collaborate with you on a writing project.  THIS IS A CREATIVE SUCCESS!  THIS IS A WIN!

That victorious feeling, that joy springs forth when we stop letting others determine what makes us successful, is ACCESSIBLE TO ALL OF US.  No victory is too small to celebrate.
